Welcome to Tallow in West Waterford in Ireland.

Tallow (Tulach an Iarainn in Irish) is situated near the County Cork border. It is on the road between Lismore, County Waterford and Youghal, County Cork.

The town of Tallow is in the most westerly part of County Waterford set deep in a valley on the Blackwater Valley Scenic Drive.

The town has a population of 1000 people and is an important market town in the west Waterford and east Cork region.

Well known people with connections to the town include:

John Hogan (1800–1858) was born in Tallow and became one of the greatest Irish sculptors.

Tobias Kirby (1804–1895) was a distinguished churchman born in Tallow, rector of the Irish College Rome 1850-1891, and archbishop of Ephesus 1885.

Frank Ryan (1900–1965) was an internationally renowned tenor who grew up in Tallow. Mick McCarthy and the Carmelite sisters hold a special place in the heart of the Tallow people.

Mick McCarthy played and managed the Irish International Football (soccer) team. His father was born in Tallow while his cousin Desmond was a founder member of Brideview United Football Club.

Tallow Horse Fair

This takes place on the 3rd of September each year. The fair, which is one of the oldest in Ireland, attracts sellers and buyers from all over Ireland and abroad. A festival of entertainment accompanies the Fair with many of Tallow's emigrants returning to renew old friendships and enjoy themselves. A wide range of events take place including free entertainment on the stage at the Square.
